Corticale Srl, an IIT spin-off, has been featured among the "20 Future Italian HealthTech and MedTech Leaders" by Lloyd Price at Nelson Advisors.

Born from IIT research, Corticale develops next-generation neurotechnology based on its #SiNAPS platform — ultra-high-density, minimally invasive neural implants capable of recording signals from thousands of neurons at single-cell resolution, enabling advanced brain-computer interfaces and new approaches to neurological disorders.

This recognition highlights the impact of IIT research in translating #cuttingedgescience into real-world #healthcare #innovation.

Congratulations to the Corticale team on this achievement!

The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT)

IIT is a public research foundation created by the Italian government in 2003 and operational since 2005 to promote excellence in basic and applied research and support Italy’s technological and economic development.

Its headquarters are in Genoa, with a network of research centers across major Italian cities (e.g., Turin, Milan, Rome, Pisa, Naples, Lecce, Venice, Ferrara) and outstations in the US (MIT and Harvard).

IIT Focus

IIT conducts multidisciplinary research focused on four main domains: robotics, computational sciences (including AI and computer vision), technologies for life sciences, and nanomaterials/nanotechnology.

Their work spans humanoid and industrial robots, prosthetics and assistive devices, neuroscience and brain technologies, drug discovery, advanced imaging and microscopy, and new materials and energy solutions.

IIT Mission and impact

IIT’s mission is to generate high‑level scientific knowledge and turn it into real‑world technologies, with a strong emphasis on technology transfer to industry and startups.

They collaborate with universities, companies, and public bodies, file patents, and create deep‑tech startups in areas such as robotics, AI, biomedicine, and advanced materials, aiming to address challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and an aging society.

IIT Team and people

IIT employs roughly 1,800–1,900 people from dozens of countries, with an average age around 35 and a high proportion of researchers and PhD‑level staff.

The institute reports many thousands of scientific publications, hundreds of European and ERC projects, over a thousand patent titles, and several dozen established or in‑launch startups
